'Saying Yes to God' (2018 RDL)

Many people yearly and monthly get away from their families and surroundings to go for weekend retreats. At these retreats, it’s often the retreat facilitator who does the talking and silence is what characterize the rest of the retreatants. Retreatants are led into a weekend of prayer and surrenderig to God.

However it is often a challenging way for young people who are either in school or have just started their university or work or have entrepreneurial jobs that demand their all-time presence.

Not many of them can get away from these demanding schedules.

Its difficult for them to go away for a whole weekend, worse off for eight days.

Is a retreat in daily life a solution? A solution to bridge this gap between demanding daily commitments and the desire to examine oneself and commit to a prayerful life?

A retreat in Daily life is an Ignatian way of prayer. Its an individually guided prayer that one takes in the midst of their daily routine.  Guided prayers and reflections are sent to the retreatants to help them deepen their relationship with God in for weeks.

This year, in Southern Africa, over 170 retreatants have officially signed up to participate in this Retreat in Daily life. Retreatants, from Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, and South Africa will be led by Fr Ignatius Padya SJ and Br Ngonidzashe Edward SJ who will be assisted by a number of spiritual directors.

The six week 2018 RDL is running with the theme 'Saying Yes to God' which was adopted from the year’s synod theme, Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment

The 2018 retreat “is an invitation to pray and reflect on how we are responding to the call of God in our lives,” read the RDL’s preparatory document.

It is expected to lead young people to ‘have a deep and profound reflection’ using the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius.

The weeks are broken down into week of Disposition Days, Principle and Foundation: Love, Freedom and the Goal of Life, Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment and Saying Yes to the Call of Christ. Week 4 to 6 are themed Our Brokenness, The Passion and Death of Christ and Resurrection and Mission (Hearts on Fire).
