Be the best witnesses of God

Celebrating the first vows of four new Jesuits.

The last few weeks have been joyful ones for the Society of Jesus in Zimbabwe-Mozambique and Zambia-Malawi provinces as four Jesuits made their first vows on the 16th of June in Lusaka, Zambia.

Nobert Rwodzi SJ, Maximus Chongo SJ, Joseph Kachitsa SJ and Thando Maseko SJ joined the novitiate in June 2016 at Xavier House, Lusaka, Zambia.

Fr Chiedza Chimhanda SJ, provincial of the Zimbabwe-Mozambique province received the four’s vows during a Eucharistic celebration which he concelebrated with Fr David Rowan SJ (South Africa Regional Superior) and Fr Leonard Chiti SJ (Zambia-Malawi Provincial).

The four made their simple vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in front of the Eucharist.

Calling them by name, Fr Chimhanda SJ urged the vow men to always ‘choose life inspired by the desires God plants’ in their lives.

“You are freely embracing religious life as you respond to the desires God has planted within you. The step you are making today is a response to an invitation from God. The choice each one of you is making today will need to be repeated every day in your life as Jesuits.”

“You have been called to serve, to share the love of God with others and to proclaim that the Kingdom of God is a kingdom of love, peace and justice, accept that responsibility with courage and be good witnesses.”

He urged all the congregants to strive to be the best witnesses of the love of God.
