A day of joy and celebration: 8 ordained into priesthood

The 11thof August 2018 was a great day of joy and celebration as eight deacons were ordained into priesthood by Archbishop of Harare, His Grace Robert Ndlovu at St George’s College in Harare.

There were smiles everywhere as well as a few tears of joy, gratitude, and maybe relief as the eight from diocesans, Jesuits and Franscican orders vowed before men and God.

The ordained are Nobert Taurai Munekani SJ, Martin Forget Nyadewo SJ, Emmanuel Kaparasa SJ and Nelson Virimayi Nyamayaro SJ, Layton Mark Mindano, Nigel Lesly Tsuro, Upenyu Hamlet Tawoneyi and Jean Claude Hakizuwera OFM.

In his homily, the Rector of St Georges College, Fr J Arimoso SJ urged the newly ordained to be like Samuel who after answering the call of God, worked tirelessly in house of God.

Despite being inspired by other priest or individual, Fr Arimoso urged the newly ordained to make let Jesus be their role model.

“There are people that we emulate, but in priesthood we do not respond to people but to God. There many priests that you emulate here but let’s remember that Jesus must be our role model,” he said.

“We are here and people are giving you full attention, but after all this the roles have to be reversed. Its now your duty to give God’s people full attention. Say mass for them, preach to them, bury their dead, administer to them sacraments, counsel them and give them hope. In all this you have to have total dedication and commitment and not run away from service.”

He urged the new priests to work with everyone regardless of social status, marital status and age. Fr Arimoso SJ said the new priests should be happy as this is what they chose not forced into, this is what they wanted and is a dream come true.

The eight were ordained before more than 80 concelebrating priests, a large congregation of, family, friends, parishioners, and the religious.

We congratulate the new priests and continue to pray for them.
